On Saturday March 31, 2007, the Driftwood Community Centre hosted Jane-Finch Is Getting On, a community forum organized by a number of community organizations and groups. This event was attended by over 150 people. The forum focused on issues of access and equity faced by area residents. More than 35 residents committed to ongoing meetings to try and address those issues.
Those ongoing meetings quickly evolved into Jane-Finch On The Move. Comprised of area residents and key support staff from local organizations, the group has been meeting regularly ever since.
Jane-Finch On The Move is a grassroots group that promotes community solidarity and harmony, and strives towards removing systemic barriers that many members in our community face through the participation of all members of our community. We value positive change with a demand for peace, social justice and economic security for all. Return to top
Our area gets its name from the intersection. For our purposes, the boundaries are Steeles Avenue West to the north, Highway 400 to the west, Keele Street to the east, and Sheppard Avenue West to the south.
Highlights: This is an overview of JFOTM highlights covering the period 2007-2012.
Forums: When JFOTM members filled out application forms for funding in late 2007, they decided to build upon the original March 2007 “Jane-Finch Is Getting On” forum. To that end, a plan was put forward to hold one large follow-up forum plus two more forums to be held between November 2008 and June 2009.
Funding was approved and the group was able to present the three forums. To learn more about each forum, please click on the appropriate link.
On May 9, 2008, JFOTM members approved a Terms of Reference that they had worked upon for several months. As time went on, it became clear that this document did not reflect the reality of an all volunteer grassroots group. So members started to create a new Terms in mid-2012. This document was ratified on August 10, 2013. Read it at this link.
